Ghufran is a dynamic and visionary corporate leader with over 32 years of experience spanning the FMCG, financial services, energy and development sectors. He is highly regarded for his entrepreneurial spirit, strategic insight, and passion for driving excellence.
Currently, Ghufran heads the sustainability vertical at The Hunar Foundation, where he is responsible for donor management process, brand equity development, communication & marketing and organizational development. His leadership at THF is focused on enhancing the organization’s capacity, impact and visibility as it strives to build a skilled Pakistan through state-of-the-art vocational, technological, and digital training.
Throughout his career, Ghufran has specialized in navigating complex corporate transformations and turnarounds. His expertise encompasses strategic planning, brand & business development, change management, stakeholder engagement, and communication strategy. His ability to lead organizations through periods of significant change has been a hallmark of his career.
At K-Electric (formerly Karachi Electric Supply Company), Ghufran played a pivotal role as part of the leadership team driving the company’s transformation. He was responsible for stakeholder engagement and change management besides managing all aspects of internal and external communications, including marketing, media relations, and sustainability initiatives.
Prior to his tenure at K-Electric, Ghufran spent a significant part of his career at Nestle Pakistan, where he was instrumental in implementing key marketing, distribution, and supply chain management systems. His leadership extended across Central Asia, where he spearheaded pioneering efforts to establish sales and distribution systems. He was also a key member of the regional task force responsible for implementing an ERP system across the region. At Nestle, he successfully managed major brands within the Dairy Group and headed the Central and Northern sales regions.
In the banking sector, Ghufran played a key role in revitalizing Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Pakistan’s largest commercial bank, both before and after its privatization. At Union Bank, he played a key role in transforming the bank into a leading consumer bank, facilitating the acquisition of Bank of America, American Express’s card business, and Mashreq Bank’s operations in Pakistan. His leadership in the consumer banking sector earned Union Bank several international accolades. He later served in senior leadership at Atlas Bank as Country Head of Retail, Consumer, and Private Banking, where he was instrumental in securing equity from Deutsche Investments to fuel the bank’s growth strategy.
As an entrepreneur, Ghufran has founded multiple startups in the e-learning, HR, and technology sectors.
An MBA with a specialization in marketing, Ghufran has undergone executive development training at prestigious international institutions. He is actively involved in the broader business community, serving on the advisory board of the CMO Council for the Middle East and previously on the board of INJAZ Pakistan. His commitment to education is reflected in his role as a visiting faculty member at the Institute of Business Administration, Lahore, and his frequent participation as a guest speaker at multiple industry forums and educational institutions.
