ASLAM KHALIQ

Chairman

Aslam Khaliq is presently serving as Chairman of THF. He was former chairman and adviser of Pakistan Tobacco Company Ltd, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco Company which employs over a 100,000 people with operations in around 180 countries and is a market leader in more than 50 countries selling over 300 brands.

He is also presently the Chairman of Reckitt Benckiser (Pakistan) Ltd. & Chairman of CHAL Foundation (Not-for-Profit, NPO), besides being on the Board of Governors of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) & PIA Investments.

He has served on the Boards of Oil & Gas Development Company Ltd, National Data and Registration Authority (NADRA) GOP, Islamabad Stock Exchange, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Bio-Sciences (Pvt.) Ltd & Pakistan International Airline (PIA). He is the Honorary Council General of Bulgaria in Pakistan.

SHAHID ABDULLA

Board Member

Shahid Abdulla is the principal and founding partner of Arshad Shahid Abdulla (Pvt.) Ltd. He oversees the Interior Design and Residence Departments at the firm.

Shahid Abdulla received his Bachelors in Architecture degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. After completing his studies he worked for Richmond Manhoff & Marsh and Miller & Associates for a year. He returned to Pakistan in 1975 where he joined Pyarali A. Merali Associates.

In 1979, together with Arshad Abdulla, he formed Arshad Shahid Abdulla (Pvt.) Ltd. He is a member of Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) as well as Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP). He was also the founding Chairman of Pakistan Institute of Interior Designers, established in 2001 for the development of the profession.

In 1990, along with a group of concerned individuals, he founded the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.  It was his initiative to relocate the 100 year old Nusserwanjee building from its premises in Kharadar to the new school in Clifton thereby saving it from demolition and preserving it as part of our cultural heritage. He was part of the initial teaching faculty of the school and taught here for several years. Here he also served as a member of the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee.

In 2008, he helped found The Hunar Foundation (THF), a non-profit organization with the objective of finding a solution to the problems of livelihood for the youth, by provision of quality vocational training which is in demand both locally and abroad.

To date, Shahid Abdulla is actively involved with the design processes at ASA, giving his valued guidance not only to vast ranging projects of all typology but also nurturing the new and fresh inductees into the profession with his experience, wit and wisdom.

ADNAN ASDAR

Board Member

Adnan Asdar has over 30 years of progressively diverse experience in the discipline of structural and forensic engineering and construction management. He is the co-founder of Multinet Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. and is their current Chief Executive. Adnan Asdar is also a Partner at AAA Partnership (Pvt.) Ltd., a company he formed in 1985 where he overlooked the entire project management portfolio of the organization covering vast disciplines of structural and forensic engineering, construction management, project management, liaison with local and international consultants, quality control and testing procedures for a wide range of construction and other engineering material.

Lately, most of Adnan Asdar’s time has been dedicated to philanthropic efforts with special interest in working on housing schemes for low income areas, reconstruction of homes and shelters through disaster management initiatives. He is actively involved with The Citizens Foundation (TCF), an NGO where he also plays the role of a member of the executive committee. In 2005 Adnan Asdar led the rehabilitation efforts of the TCF Relief Fund to build shelters and homes in areas devastated by the earthquake – an effort which led to the construction of over 8,200 earthquake resistant houses throughout the Kashmir area. Currently, is deeply involved with Karachi Relief Trust, which he co-founded in 2007, to manage its volunteers on the field, facilitate their immediate relief efforts and to reconstruct homes in the flood affected areas in Pakistan.

Adnan Asdar started his career with Twin City Testing in Minnesota, USA after which he joined 3M Corporation in Minnesota, USA where he conducted investigative work for plants across USA for failure prevention and rehabilitation of operating units. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin after which he went on to complete his M.S. in Forensic Engineering from University of Minnesota.

TARIQ IQBAL MIAN

Board Member

Tariq Mian did his schooling from the Karachi Grammar School and obtained an Industrial Engineering Degree from the University of Houston (University Park Campus). He spent the first 10 years of his career working in the Oilfield with Schlumberger SEACO Inc. in various field and management positions in Syria, Yemen, Egypt, UAE, Japan, Scotland and the South of France. He founded and is presently CEO of Image Graphic Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd. which pioneered Digital Printing in Pakistan and Sri Lanka and Director at EMPACT! Activation Services the largest brand activation company in Pakistan. Tariq Mian has previously set-up and sold Image Graphic Solutions Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd and AbacusTec a company that was doing Medical Transcription services for customers in the US & UK.

Tariq Mian is a Trustee and Executive Committee member of the Karachi Relief Trust, a registered NPO specializing in the area of Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation. He is also a Board Member of The Hunar Foundation a registered NPO that provides Vocational Training to deserving students and actively volunteers for The Behbud Association and a number of other NGO/NPO’s.

He is an Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver with specializations in Reef Ecology, Rescue and Recovery and First Responder in medical emergencies. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys trekking, paragliding, camping, spear fishing and organic farming.

ABBAS AKBERALI

Abbas Akberali founded Amreli Steels in 1972 and since then has led the Company to see it become the largest and most well-known steel bar manufacturer in Pakistan. Abbas Akberali brings unparalleled experience with his Metallurgical Engineering background combined with an MBA from Columbia University, NY.

He has played an influential role in driving reforms aimed towards the growth of Pakistan’s steel industry. With a passion for increasing Pakistan’s literacy rate, Abbas Akberali is also a founding member of The Hunar Foundation and serves on the Board of other notable non-profit organizations.

NASSER JAFFER

Nasser N. S. Jaffer is the Chairman of Jaffer Group of Companies, a diversified business house operating in Pakistan since July 1948. He has previously served the Group as the CEO and is a member of all the boards of the Group Companies.

Nasser Jaffer is currently associated with the boards of various other companies as a trustee and as a member. He is on the Board of Governors of Chal Foundation; Member Board of Governors, The Kidney Centre; Board Member of Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation (KKAWF). He is also the Honorary Secretary of Modern Club and Modern Housing Society, Karachi; Trustee and Founder Member of Sulaiman Haroon Jaffer Trust and Director of Darut Tasnif (Pvt.) Ltd.

NASEEM JAFFER

Board Member

Naseem Jaffer has a dynamic background in philanthropy driven by her passion to make a meaningful and sustainable social change, mainly in the areas of health, education, and uplifting special members of the society. She has always remained resolute in assisting and empowering the less fortunate in Pakistan.

For decades, Naseem Jaffer has been involved in many initiatives and NGOs, helping in natural calamities like earthquakes, floods, and others. She has devoted a major part of her life to voluntary work spanned across several not-for-profit organizations where through her leadership and determination she was able to motivate change and raise the required support to meet the immediate and long-term goals of the NGOs she was associated with.

One of her major voluntary roles has been the initiative for the upliftment of the special members of society. Naseem Jaffer was the Founder Member and Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, and also headed the first International World Games. She was also a Member and Chairperson of “Funds for the Inclusion of Physically Disabled” (FIPD) that worked in collaboration with the World Bank, where she arranged and managed several fundraisers and workshops while also supporting and distributing financial and non-financial aid and services to several NGOs that were registered with FIPD.

Naseem Jaffer has played a major role in raising funds for The Kidney Centre as a member of “Friends of The Kidney Centre” since its inception. She is also a dedicated member of LRBT.

In the field of education, Naseem Jaffer was on the board of the Karachi American School in different capacities.

Naseem Jaffer is currently a Board Member of THF and Chairperson of “Friends of HUNAR”.

SHAHID AHMAD

Board Member

Shahid Ahmad is an entrepreneur involved in businesses for the last 50 years. He has served on the board of a number of public, private organizations, as well as philanthropic institutions.

He has the privilege to be from the first batch of DMSTI Technical School in 1967. He also has a degree in Glass Engineering from Alfred University, New York, B.Ed. from University of Karachi and spent 1 year each towards Master’s degree in Solid State Physics and International Affairs at University of Karachi.
